Announcing the Jacob's Journey for Answers Campaign

A campaign to help Jacob Wister Ivins search for answers to an unknown medical issue diagnosis

Tullahoma, TN – November 13, 2014 – On September 29th of 2014, Jacob Wister Ivins’s  body decided to unexpectedly shut down and this bad situation landed him in ICU at St. Thomas Hospital in Murfreesboro, TN. Jacob is a 34 year old with no previous medical issues and is unsure of what caused this medical issue.

During his stay in the hospital he went through many tests in an attempt to find the cause of this episode. In the end the diagnosis was unknown and needs to undergo more testing. At this time there are still no clear answers to what happened to him.

Jacob has been experiencing some ongoing effects since returning home from the hospital, such as extreme fatigue, confusion and dizzy spells.  Before the incident, he had no such occurrences or any medical history to help diagnose the root cause of this episode.

Jacob continues to search for answers, but still have no diagnosis. He has a beautiful family that depends on him tremendously and they need him to return back to normal.  The continual medical testing and follow ups will be as you can guess, expensive and this medical dilemma couldn’t have happened at the worst time. On November 6th of 2014 the company Jacob works for was forced to layoff employees.  He will lose his insurance at the end of the month. Jacob is not one to ask for help, but at this point there is no alternative.

He started a campaign on GoFundMe and there were kind people who have contributed to his dilemma. He appreciates everything that everyone has contributed so farm so if you would like to help, please visit:

Please keep Jacob in your thoughts as he continues down this path of discovery and treatment.

Announcing the Miami International Science Fiction Film Festival

Join us in making the Miami International Science Fiction Film Festival one of the most exciting festivals in Florida

Miami, FL  – November 11, 2014 – The founding members of MiSciFi (Miami International Science Fiction Film Festival ) have been film-makers for some time.  It has been a long trek, their biggest recognition came with the documentary Journey to Planet X, which has been called a "love letter to science fiction", a film that highlight our passion in the creation of fantastic film.  They've had the wonderful opportunity to attend numerous festivals all over the world.  During that time they've reflected on how nice would it be if the Florida community had a festival specifically featuring fantastic films.  They invited their close friend Edward Figueroa, who has been working closely with them for some years now as a DP, and created our incredible team.  Each of the MiSciFi founders are scientists, passionately driven to explore all things science, fact and fiction. They support and inspire the local film community through their own film-making.

They are fortunate to be aligned with Big Blue & You a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to inspiring and educating youth about marine conservation through arts and media.  MiSciFi believes individual environmental stewardship is cultivated through education, art, film, communication, leadership, and service to the community, which will ultimately spur environmental advocacy on a global level. All contributions to this festival are tax deductible.

To date, there has been a lack of science fiction in the state of Florida and a big desire to showcase all the work that is out there, and MiSciFi believes that creating this festival will help to fulfill that desire. With your help, they can make this film festival a strong and vibrant new start for the South Florida community.

About the Miami International Science Fiction Film Festival

The MiSciFi founding members have worked together on science-fiction themed independent film projects for years. We have attended sci-fi film festivals as far away as Europe, but have noted a lack of more local festivals that cater to this interest. To remedy this, we have formed the Miami International Science Fiction Film Festival, a forum for inventive and imaginative filmmakers from all over to come and showcase their work. All of us in MiSciFi work in scientific fields, and greatly respect those that want to tell a story that takes science a step beyond.

The intent of MiSciFi is to showcase the best in Science Fiction, Horror, Fantasy, and other science-themed films from around the world. This jubilee is set in the trendy yet enticingly diverse metropolis of Miami, Florida and is being hosted in the luxurious Hyatt located in downtown Miami. Our inspirational environment is ideal to explore films that ponder the infinite possibilities our universe holds. Miami is already an international hub for many things, we intend to make it an international hub for fantastic films as well.

Announcing the Rodini Roldan Fundraiser for Prostate Cancer

Please support our dad, Rodini Roldan, as he undergoes surgery & other costly medical interventions treating his Stage III Prostate Cancer.

Juneau, Alaska – November 2, 2014 – Rodini’s daughter trying to raise money for her father because he has recently been diagnosed with Stage III Prostate Cancer, and has surgery this month, as well as many more treatments & interventions needed down the line.

In their small hometown, they are not fortunate enough to have the specialists and skilled surgeons in advanced medical facilities that are available in larger cities to take care of his treatment locally. So, in addition to the costs of treatment, their family also has additional traveling, as well as any other unexpected medical/travel costs, which can be very hard on any family.

Rodini's ailment does not only affect him being away from work, but it also affects their mother's work too. Their mother will be the one who will accompany him out of town to fly to Seattle for his procedures, and be the one to remain steadfast by Rodini's side, nursing him back to a level of strength and health where he is able to fly back to home. As one would imagine, time spent away from work detracts from earnings that would normally bring in the income of two working parents, thus, making budgets tighter for the family as a whole. Naturally, this has an effect on the children who are dependent on this income, and while my parents do not want us to stress about finances, being their children, they, of course, cannot help it.

Rodini’s daughter starting a GiveForward campaign to lighten the financial burden that is put upon any individual or family affected by major illness that is also having to undergo treatment.

About Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer only affects men and occurs in a gland located below the bladder. Currently, no effective treatment is currently available for when after the cancer has reached advanced stages. That is why prostate cancer remains the second leading cause of cancer death in American males. It is very rare in men under 40. People may experience problems urinating, and chronic lower back pain. Ninety percent of cases spread from the prostate to the bones.

Prostate cancer is referred to as stage III if the cancer can be detected by digital rectal examination and has extended through the capsule that encloses the prostate gland and may involve nearby tissues.

Fastlane Ventures raises $1.4 million to turn how-to website into “knowledge sharing social network for millions of users”

In late April, Relevant Media, a project of Internet startup developer Fastlane Ventures, raised $1.4 million from a group of undisclosed individual investors.

With its three properties – the “how-to” portal Kakprosto.ru,  Justlady.ru,  Pinme.ru, – Relevant Media claims an audience of 18 million unique visitors, making it one of the 10 largest Russian Internet media groups.

Relevant Media’s leading business, Kakprosto.ru, contains a library of more than 250,000 answers for the most common questions asked on the web. In terms of traffic, the site is ahead of its competitors – Shkolazhniki.ru and even the corresponding sections of Google and Mail.ru, – according to the company.

“Currently we see a surge of interest in projects related to knowledge generation and exchange. Most of such projects are in the area of education (Coursera, BeSmart etc). At the same time, there is a huge and poorly structured segment, which we call the “exchange of life experience. It is represented in a large number of forums, thematic websites and blogs, plenty of which are unstructured, unmoderated and deliver poor quality content,” said Relevant Media CEO and co-founder Andrey Kuzeev.

“Our mission is to build a unified platform, where people who are real experts in their own fields can share their experience and give advice to those seeking it,” Kuzeev concluded.

The latest capital injection will be used to create new content, develop a social advice network and a mobile application. Already almost 20% of Relevant Media’s audience use the service from a mobile device.

Although Fastlane does not reveal the financials of its properties, its representative Ivan Zhdakaev told East-West Digital News that Relevant Media is “EBITDA positive.”

Prior to the lastest round, Fastlane invested $2 million in the project.
