Dallas NCSY Combating Antisemitism with Two-Part “Are Jew Ready” Series

Learning opportunity for how the Jewish community should respond when lives are threatened by hatred and violence

 

PLANO, Texas – February 2, 2022 – Dallas NCSY and it's Jewish Student Union is inviting all parents and teens to join together for the continued “Are Jew Ready” series that has discussed antisemitism and how to combat it. The event is co-presented by StandWithUs, a San Diego-based Israel advocacy organization, and the Dallas Area Torah Association (DATA), a local Jewish outreach organization.

Part 1, titled Israel 101, was held on Sunday, January 30. The presentation featured Sharon Basch, the Regional High School Coordinator from StandWithUs. Rabbi Yogi Robkin from DATA will be presenting part 2 of the series being held on February 6. 

 

Following the recent events in Colleyville, Texas, it is necessary again to come together and discuss these disturbing events that connect all Jews affected by the continuous hatred. The “Are Jew Ready” series was developed to provide teens and parents with facts and actionable tools necessary to combat antisemitism. Attendees will learn about confronting antisemitism on college campuses and everywhere hatred arises.

Dallas NCSY along with it's Jewish Student Union engages 100's of teens with programs like this and with after-school clubs on high school campuses throughout the Dallas metroplex with opportunities to socialize, travel, have fun and volunteer with the local community. DR. NATALIE S. ROBERTSON HELPS NAT GEO TELL THE STORY OF AMERICA’S LAST SLAVE SHIP

 

The eagerly anticipated film about the smuggling voyage of the Clotilda, America’s last slave ship, will air on the National Geographic Channel on February 7, 2022 @ 10 p.m. (EST), and it will begin streaming on Hulu and Disney+ the following day. 

 

This film features Dr. Natalie S. Robertson who is an authority on the Clotilda smuggling crime. Dr. Robertson is one of 49 National Trust scholars who drafted the national rubric for interpreting slavery at museums and historic sites. She has taught courses on slavery at national and international institutions, including Hampton University and the Advanced Studies in England Program, affiliated with University College, Oxford. Her book-related research has received international acclaim and several awards including the National Endowment for the Humanities Faculty Research Award, the Mellon Dissertation-year Fellowship, the PASALA Fellowship, the Stanley-UI Foundation Fellowship, and the United Negro College Fund Faculty Seminar Abroad Fellowship (Gorée Institute). 

 

Based upon 15 years of primary field research, her book, The Slave Ship Clotilda and the Making of AfricaTown, USA: Spirit of Our Ancestors, chronicles the Clotilda’s fateful, illegal smuggling voyage from point of capture in the West African interior to point of disembarkation in Mobile, Alabama on the eve of the Civil War.
