Announcing the Campaign to Provide Funding for a New Documentary

Help provide funding to document the recovery and rebirth of a very lucky man

Phoenix, AZ -- March 22, 2015 -- Billy F. Mullin announces the campaign to seek funding to cover the costs of filming a new documentary about his recovery and rebirth from a long series of illness of injury.

At the age of 16, Billy contracted a rare terminal form disease known as  Meningital Coccidioidomycosis, caused by a virus trapped in the valley fever fungus that is stuck in Billy’s spine. This illness caused him to have a stroke, paralyzing his entire left side. Due to the severity of this illness, his doctors gave him a grim 2 year life expectancy.

Defying all odds, Billy has now reached the age of 27. However has not been an easy journey. Since being diagnosed in August 2004 he has suffered several setbacks, requiring that he re-teach himself how to walk 3 times, spent countless days in the Hospital or in bed unable to move, received more than a dozen spinal taps, and required brain surgery 6 separate occasions. Billy’s doctors have warned him that he may require several more surgeries on his brain throughout his life to repair the damage caused by his illness.

While the seriousness of his illness coupled with the lengthy hospital stays made it impossible for him to completely finish film school, he attended enough of his coursework to realize that his true dream is to become a film maker. Hence, he decided to start a documentary about his own life and explore the passion he has for the art of tattooing.

The plan for this documentary is to film the process of completely transforming his appearance through the use of large pieces of tattoo art covering both of his arms, portions of his neck, and 70% of his torso. Throughout the documentary, Billy will couple the process of his tattoo sessions while telling his life story and subsequent illness through interviews with various important people in his life.

Billy is seeking funding in order to complete the documentary and tattoo artwork. While he admits this is likely to be a costly and dangerous venture, he believes this is the best way to explore his love of film while allowing himself to be reborn out of his previous suffering.

Announcing the Miami International Science Fiction Film Festival

Join us in making the Miami International Science Fiction Film Festival one of the most exciting festivals in Florida

Miami, FL  – November 11, 2014 – The founding members of MiSciFi (Miami International Science Fiction Film Festival ) have been film-makers for some time.  It has been a long trek, their biggest recognition came with the documentary Journey to Planet X, which has been called a "love letter to science fiction", a film that highlight our passion in the creation of fantastic film.  They've had the wonderful opportunity to attend numerous festivals all over the world.  During that time they've reflected on how nice would it be if the Florida community had a festival specifically featuring fantastic films.  They invited their close friend Edward Figueroa, who has been working closely with them for some years now as a DP, and created our incredible team.  Each of the MiSciFi founders are scientists, passionately driven to explore all things science, fact and fiction. They support and inspire the local film community through their own film-making.

They are fortunate to be aligned with Big Blue & You a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to inspiring and educating youth about marine conservation through arts and media.  MiSciFi believes individual environmental stewardship is cultivated through education, art, film, communication, leadership, and service to the community, which will ultimately spur environmental advocacy on a global level. All contributions to this festival are tax deductible.

To date, there has been a lack of science fiction in the state of Florida and a big desire to showcase all the work that is out there, and MiSciFi believes that creating this festival will help to fulfill that desire. With your help, they can make this film festival a strong and vibrant new start for the South Florida community.

About the Miami International Science Fiction Film Festival

The MiSciFi founding members have worked together on science-fiction themed independent film projects for years. We have attended sci-fi film festivals as far away as Europe, but have noted a lack of more local festivals that cater to this interest. To remedy this, we have formed the Miami International Science Fiction Film Festival, a forum for inventive and imaginative filmmakers from all over to come and showcase their work. All of us in MiSciFi work in scientific fields, and greatly respect those that want to tell a story that takes science a step beyond.

The intent of MiSciFi is to showcase the best in Science Fiction, Horror, Fantasy, and other science-themed films from around the world. This jubilee is set in the trendy yet enticingly diverse metropolis of Miami, Florida and is being hosted in the luxurious Hyatt located in downtown Miami. Our inspirational environment is ideal to explore films that ponder the infinite possibilities our universe holds. Miami is already an international hub for many things, we intend to make it an international hub for fantastic films as well.
