Announcing the It Figures Tax & Accounting Fundraiser

Vancouver, Canada – November 15, 2014 – Almost every time the news pops up, we’re reminded of how chaotic the world can be, from murders and robberies to atrocities committed by governments across the globe. Every event seems to happen because the aggressor wants something; either to preserve oneself or take from others. But what about individuals who have dedicated their whole life, or even just one day for the others around them? Instead of striking the person beside them to the ground or doing nothing, they kneel down and offer their support. While the biggest examples of these often make the news, the majority of those we read are found in blogs written with titles such as, “What This Person Just Did Will Make You Cry,” or, “These Two Men Donated to a Homeless Man. What He Did in Return Will Blow Your Mind”.

These acts of kindness can also be found in crowdfunding sites such as GoFundMe.com, where communities have raised thousands of dollars in a matter of days for individuals who have recently suffered, or have been struggling their whole life. Because of the sheer volume of campaigns that come in, only a few are able to reach their goals.

Among the plethora of campaigns asking for assistance, here’s one that I’d like to share with you:

“A Secret Project for My Mother” is about a woman who was faced with the decision of whether to have an abortion many years back. She decided not to, and instead dedicated her life towards her would-be children and sacrifice her own dreams. This was a very hard decision, and the campaign reveals how much she went through because of that decision. Her son, Brett, who is running the campaign, knows this and in his words is trying to “give [his] mother – a woman who sacrificed everything she had for those around her – one last shot to achieve the impossible”. Achieving the impossible is referring to his mother’s home-based business, which is going to be changing dramatically in the next year. He states that she has to grow it quickly due to circumstances out of her control.

Brett believes she can get past these hurdles, mentioning her performance in finance during her lifetime and including the fact she is on a board of ethics; definitely a plus for someone in the finance industry. He explains however, that “there comes a time in life when you know you can’t do it alone”.

While the goal for the campaign is somewhat high, when Brett breaks it down into parts it’s understandable, considering what his mother has gone through in her life. He even went as far as including a video in the ad, which very few people have done on GoFundMe. If you are interested in the campaign, you can check it out here: http://www.gofundme.com/g4ou2g
